Title:  Spanish 1                     Course#:  4110                         Number of Credits:  10

Spanish I is designed at an introductory level to enable students to develop oral proficiency and communication skills through grammar structures, spelling, vocabulary, pronunciation, translation, and conversation.  Upon completion of Spanish I, students should be able to meet basic survival needs and courtesy requirements such as greeting others, giving one’s name and age, ordering food, to dialogue about the weather and a variety of topics in both present and past tenses.  Grammar applications are viewed more in depth to continue the development of skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening to and understanding native speakers of the Spanish language.  Areas of study will be contextual in nature, as language acquisition and improved communication in Spanish is the emphasis and goal of this course.
